The Real Beginning – 2003
A journey that began in 2003 on the streets of Kumbakonam—with my mother, Jayalakshmi, and a red bicycle. My name is Vijayakumar, and this is where my story in insurance truly began.
I was in the 9th standard when my mother decided to start her career as an agent for LIC of India. I was her biggest cheerleader, encouraging her to join and even tagging along with her to the 30-day IRDAI agent training.
I’d go to pick her up after school, and if the class was still running, I’d just walk right in. I’d sit and mingle with the batch of over 100 aspiring agents, listening in. Looking back, that’s where my own passion for insurance was born, sitting in that training hall at age of 15.
I started helping my mom with her day-to-day work—learning the plans, canvassing, and meeting potential clients. I’ll never forget those days. We had a red bicycle, and I would ride my mom all over our tier-3 town to help her complete her yearly targets.
As the years passed, I explored entrepreneurship, built IndiaHost.com during my college days, and later shaped my career around digital growth and product. I had the privilege of contributing to the digital growth of a leading health insurer in Chennai, where I grew from a marketer into a business generalist leading growth, strategy, sales, tech, product, and compliance.
In 2025, a bright spark hit me. I realized my next mission wasn’t just *another job*—it was back in the Insurance industry I had loved since I was 15. My mom and I teamed up again. We both appeared for the Broker Qualified Exam in 2025. (a pic from of our Journey)
